Get Involved

We are seeking communities, groups, schools and individuals along the River Tame to work with us to explore the part industry played in shaping their local area along the river, as well a people who worked, or still work, in industries situated along the river.

The River Tame flows through areas such as Wednesbury, Darlaston, Hamstead, Perry Barr, Witton, Aston, Nechells, Bromford, Castle Vale, Castle Bromwich, Water Orton, Kingsbury, Tamworth and more.

This is an opportunity to:

• Receive training in research, oral histories, archiving and more from the Library of Birmingham.
• Learn about heritage in relation to your local area, the river, and the wider Tame region.
• Develop understanding of how this can inform future developments in your community.
• Meet new people.
• Connect with other communities along the river.
• Be part of a wider project with regional impact to celebrate the Tame and its industrial heritage.
• Create a lasting legacy via materials for the general public and an archive in the regions libraries and museums.

Groups will be supported through a dedicated community heritage officer, Library of Birmingham training and MADE. Groups can be new or existing. They can be big or small. The project will take place over a year from May 2014.

You do not need any previous experience of exploring heritage, just lots of enthusiasm.
